Sober Living, Chem Free House Services

Newly recovering men and women have a difficult time in their first year of abstinence. It is important that these people have a safe, comfortable, sober and affordable residential living environment to apply themselves to a new way of living. It is also important that the staff or persons serving these newly recuperating men and women take part in a positive sober lifestyle themselves and help ensure that the environment remains drug and alcohol free.

In the 70s Joe McQuany noticed the rise and popularity of the treatment center boom. He recognized that it was a great help and great hindrance to AA. He put RD in various stages of treatment, including inpatient, out patient, corrections, homeless shelters, churches etc.

My personal experience with the RD model for more than 20 plus years working in the different areas as a professional counselor has been having clients completing treatment and needing housing when they were discharged. Most halfway houses and the like had some rules and offered housing. None really offered a program of recovery needed for a newly recovering person in their early stages of sobriety. Clients had Recovery Dynamics while at the treatment facilities. However, their fire or excitement for recovery and change would be dampened at most of the local chem free houses due to having individuals in there that did not want the program, or did not have any experience with the program. This resulted in a toxic environment infested with behaviors that lead to relapse for newly recovering alcoholic and addicts. As most of these houses were just that; houses. Houses only offering housing as long as one paid their rent.

In that event individuals that really wanted to get well had to actually be exposed to the same environment they were trying to escape. There have been reports of drug using, drug dealing, prostitution, gambling, violence and the threat of violence in these so called sober living houses, half way houses,  chem free houses and the like, creating an unsafe place to stay sober and focus on changing ones life. The owners of these houses either don’t know how to eradicate this or don’t care as long as the rent is paid. Most of these house owners soon find that it is hard for unhealthy people to pay rent.

Professional Advocacy’s implementation of The Recovery Dynamics Sponsorship guidebooks of the Kelly Foundation have been proven to create a healthy , sober , and  safe environment where recovering men and women can commit to change. Experience and research shows that unhealthy houses have a difficult time collecting payments from sick individuals , whereas healthy individuals in healthy houses make their payments on time.

This course includes a life time certification and access to course videos, 26 week 1 on 1 consultation, general rules and guidelines for chemical free housing, a copy of the Carry This Message book, 10 user licenses, and how to use the Recovery Dynamics assignment log sheets.
